This was my first road bike. I bought it in August 1994. It has carbon fiber tubes with aluminum lugs and Campagnolo components. I still have this bike and estimate that I've put over 10,000 miles on it.
After years of my Rocketwing collecting dust, I finally raced it in the Fiesta Island Time Trial Race. Pretty slick looking bike don't cha think!!! And how about that Flash Gordon-like aero helmet!
For the ride I averaged about 22.7 mph and an average heart rate of 169 bpm. Not bad for an old fart!
This is the infamous post-ride celebration party in Ensenada. Free beer and crazy people!
Taken just a few minutes after completing the 70-miler which turned into 82 miles because our group took a wrong turn! Derailleur broke and had to pedal the last 5-miles stuck in high gear! Man! That was painful!
Here I am with a couple of my riding buddies at the after-ride party.
20 mile ride around Miramar Naval Air Station. This ride was a blast and was more of a time-trial than a casual ride! I averaged about 21 mph. Not bad for being about 240 lbs!
Perry and Dave were riding buddies of mine when I trained for the 1999 Santa Fe Century Ride.
Pretty heavy here...about 267 lbs. This was just a couple of weeks after being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and starting CPAP treatment. It was a challenge just to do sucha short ride but I was still jazzed to finally be back on the bike.
I was in pretty good shape here - about 185 lbs with a resting heart rate of 43 bpm. I cruised pretty fast averaging 20.3 mph. My heart rate for the entire ride averaged 166 bpm. Can you say SMOKIN'!!!!
